i just read about sizing up your hard pvc on the drainline last night. I have plans to change that (not to mention getting rid of the orange pipe, i was spray paint happy one night). I am not getting much gurgling, i drilled holes in the top of the T coming out of the bulkhead to allow air in. It is probably about a 1/4 inch hole. If i plug the hole, i get significant gurgling. I know this cause it sucked part of my shirt in last night when i was hanging the lights.

My siphon overflow came with a small pipe that I could insert from the top of the back overflow box down into the drop pipe. That seemed to help a bit. If your hole at the top worked that well and you want even more quiet, try putting a small bit of tubing down about 1 foot into the drain pipe or further. I would move the tube around, either deeper or less deep into the drop pipe to tune the gurgles.
