Hello, I'm new to LinomaReefs, but not necessarily new to the hobby. Been keeping freshwater for over 30 years, with one brief experiment in a reef that Matt, Hank, and Anthony from Animal Talk helped me with back in about '97 when we built our house.

Anyway I'm taking on a project and will likely be asking lots of questions here. The first order of business is where/who to have build my tank. I want to have an acrylic coral tank built dimensions about 60" x 20" x 12" to fill a space in the basement.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Jamie

Jim just had one built by Midwest Custom Acrylics.
I know Jason (jd) just had a tank built, but I can't remember who he had do it.

Yup, if you want acrylic TruVu aquariums out of California is the place to go. I guarantee they will be cheaper than everyone else, and offer free shipping to boot If you are interested in glass at all, Aquariums Obsessed out of Ontario is THE glass guy IMO.

i'd make certain that you're sure you want to go with acrylic. Unless it's going to be a huge tank and you're considering acrylic for structural reasons, I'd probably suggest glass. I have yet to find a way to clean my acrylic tank without scratching the viewing panel.

I wondered that about acrylic, but I just figured it would be easier to find someone to build the custom in plastic. I didn't know there were custom glass aquarium builders too.

I've got a few requests for quotes in. We'll see what comes out of it.

thanks again

someone out there will build anything you want, for a price. not sure if you've checked into it before, but custom fabrication is very pricey. usually 2-3 times the cost of a typical AGA aquarium of comparative size. good luck.

Well, the first quote I got was about 4x the cost of a standard glass with the same capacity!

Looking into other options now.

that's fairly tyipical. i was going to mention that it is probably cheaper to do a little remodeling on the space you have available and buy a standard aquarium. especially if this isn't going to be your last tank, as re-selling custom aquariums is difficult at best to get a decent return on.

These are much taller, but give the width and debth you are after in a common production tank. Aqua Pets carries these.
