Copepods hanging out on the glass.

Postby asnelson » Wed Jul 28, 2010 6:52 pm

Does anyone else have a lot of Copepods and Ampipods on their glass? When I'm scraping them i can see them really well abd I get a little discouraged that I
going to decrease the population. My kole tang and melanaurus love eating them. They are always swiping them of the glass. Anyway, I have plenty of live rock, sand and chaeto for then to hide in, why in the heck are they always on my glass? To clarify, these range in size from little specs to the size that if you look they are easily seen. The ones in my sump are big, brown abd seen fro
far away. If anyone cares, I've bought my pods fro
reefs2go. They are in all different sizes and they have awesome deals on them.

Don't worry about this Adam. I am sure you also have plenty of them on your live rock as well. If you wait for about 30 minutes after your lights go off and use a flashlight, I am sure you will see them all over your rocks. I get them on everything in my tank including the rock, sand and glass. This is why I have a fat and happy Mandarin. :D

Yeah, I figured as much. They are starting to get my though, I start scraping the sides and they stay right in front of it. They must of figured out that the Kole and Wrasse are ready and waiting my me to knock them off. My Kole will start at one end of the tank and swim as fast as he can and try to rub the glass the whole way to knock them off. Then he turns back and has a buffet all the way back to the other side just to start it all over again. My wrasse just attacks them like a great white, comes out of no where and just grabs them. I use to think that as I watched the tank the wrasse would swim to the glass and bite at me. In fact, i woukd go stand next to tne tank and he woukd do this everytime. I finally figured out that the little **** was just eating the pods off the glass and I was just something that would help him see the pods better.
